Ok, deep breath…. here we go.

Last year I had a lot of time on my hands so I was able to break down every single day and highlight a few different events. This year not so much, so I am just going to highlight a few badass parties that are going on Thursday through Saturday. The goal here is the biggest bang for your buck. In past years it was pretty easy to catch a major act at a small venue for under $10, or even better free. This year it seems like the major acts are keeping their surprise appearances under wraps so that the major clubs don’t get pissed when their $10,000 act is playing for free three streets away. To be honest, I am alarmed by the lack of free parties this year. It looks like WMC has finally reached extreme mainstream appeal, and that the fun “party hopping from pool party to pool party” days are over, but maybe not, I guess we shall see. At $20-$50 a pop this year, most people will be staying put at whichever party they decide on. Here are the parties that caught my eye this year…

Ok, scratch the above. I need to drive my ass to Miami now since I decided to sleep all day…. so this blog is going to be extremely shortened. Here are three parties, in three days, that you need to be at. I am playing at the Friday party so make sure your ass is there!!

FOOLS GOLD NEVER DISAPPOINTS. Trust me this party will be dope.

Luis and the people at Vizion 1 always throw an awesome party, this should be no different, plussss I am playing. Be there.

Mad Decent and Fools Gold together under one roof. Say no more.

SEE YOU IN MIAMI!!!!

My buddy Colombia and the Deadmau5 head that he has been building… what a crafty character that Colombia is! Yes, he is going to be one of those assholes with the homemade mouse heads this year at Ultra. Don’t worry if you’re an Orlando resident not attending this years festivities, I am sure he will be rocking the deadmau5 head just as much as his favorite three-piece suit vest for many Orlando nights to come. This is obviously not the finished product but pretty awesome none the less!

::UPDATE::

The Colombiamau5 head is finished, and I have to admit its pretty awesome! Here is the final result:

Be on the lookout for my 2010 WMC blog. If you were a follower of the OrangeCountyConcepts.com blog last year you may remember this series of blog posts I wrote basically breaking down the parties that were going on, and my opinion of what the best bet for a crazy night would be. From what I heard (I was sick and couldn’t make it last year) I was pretty much 100% on point, so take my advice!! I will be breaking down the parties tonight and should have a blog post up by morning, which I will also post on OCC for the three people that still watch that blog. stay tuned….

Travis Barker and DJ A-Trak just finished up a four show mini-tour tonight spanning from California to Texas. If anyone is going to be able to fill the shoes of DJ AM, I would have to say A-Trak is a pretty good candidate. I have had the pleasure of seeing him play quite a few times and he always kills it. He is also a very versatile DJ, and can play full sets of unique genres. Here we are together in Miami at the Fools Gold Records party a couple of year back…

I am going to use that little segway to reminisce about one of the best parties I have ever been to in my life, which was the aforementioned “Fools Gold WMC party 2008″. That night was epic. Pretty much the entire Fools Gold label was at this party. That night they dropped a Fools Gold CD Sampler with a little track called “Day ‘n Nite” on it. This pic was snapped at like 6am and I hadn’t slept in two days… Mr. Trak looks pretty tired himself here, and I vaguely remember him mumbling something about not sleeping in days also. He sure did play an amazing set though. It seems like everyone was at that party that night: MSTRKRFT, Surkin, Boys Noize, Mehdi, then Tommie Sunshine, and Chromeo showed up… it was seriously one of the most epic club nights of my life. This video pretty much summarizes the madness…

Anyways, I am WAYYY off topic and rambling. The Travis Barker/DJ A-Trak tour is keeping the spirt of the TRVS$DJAM partnership alive, and I think its great. I read somewhere at A-Trak had some doubts about filling DJ AM’s shoes, but I think this video shows he is definitely the man for the job.

WOW. Who knew a Wednesday could be so amazing. Its 9am, and I still have not been to sleep. I think its fair to say I have a sleep disorder. When I have a good night its hard for me to get right to sleep… But this has been more than a good night, its been a good week, and the weekend hasn’t even started. Then on top of all this, Ultra and WMC are next week! Its hard to imagine that things are looking even better from this point forward.

Before I get into last nights festivities, let me thank everyone who came out to the Food Network taping at Icebar. I had a great time and it was good to see so many close friends in one place enjoying themselves (of course the open bar didn’t hurt). Now on to last night… I have NEVER seen a Wednesday night on the east side of town with so many people in attendance. This was quite an eventful St Patrick’s day, and a pretty awesome turnout at Fubar. I threw together a few clips from the night…

Thanks to everyone who made it out tonight, and don’t forget we do the $2 liquor pitcher, $2 Coronas, and $2 Heinekens special every Wednesday with me on the tables for only a $2 cover.

On another note… I banged out this remix really fast this morning. I think the two tracks complement each other very nicely.

Today I will be playing a very special party @ Icebar Orlando! Food Network will be taping for a new episode for one of their shows. I personally am a huge Food Network fan, so I am really excited to find out what show they are going to be doing a taping for. I heard it might just be for an upcoming special of some kind, either way, its going to be an awesome party.

It is from 4pm-9pm and is going to be an OPEN BARRRR!! YES!!! Can’t go wrong with that.

Only catch: Very stylish attire is required, so leave your “not as stylish” friends at home. They will not be letting in anyone who does not meet their standards. This is also a 21+ only event.

I’ll be playing records throughout the afternoon into the evening, so come by and say hello!

Thank you so much to my friends who came out and supported me tonight at the Redbull Thre3style DJ battle. It was an honor to be in the line-up with such amazing talent. I placed 3rd behind DJ M-Squared and DJ Rincon, who deserved 1st and 2nd place for sure.

Tonight I was really reminded of how much I love what I do. To be honest, I am really upset with myself for coming in 3rd place, but I went into the contest telling myself that I would be happy with a 3rd place finish. I wasn’t really interested in going to Miami to compete in the next round (1st & 2nd place) because I thought that I wasn’t on that level, but when I was up on that stage at the end of the night, and my name wasn’t called 1st or 2nd it hit me that I REALLY did want that. I was EXTREMELY hungry for that. What I learned tonight is I love playing records. I love my turntables, and I am blessed that I can do what I do. I also learned that I NEVER again need to be nervous, or scared of success. If I took a step back, a deep breath, and managed to find a little inner confidence in myself I am very sure the result would have been different.

Tonight did have some major positives. I won all this rad gear:

But more importantly I met some awesome people. Everyone that played tonight brought something to the table that was original and impressive. I look forward to keeping in touch with all the guys I met tonight, as well as hopefully making a return appearance next year… except the only different is I will me much more hungry for that crown.

I know I am guilty of being Mr. Promoter, but if you are going to make it to any of my events this year, THIS IS THE ONE.

I meant to write a detailed blog about this party and the other talent that will be performing, but I have been basically practicing for the last two days straight. I didn’t even have my set picked out until about 3am Tue morning… so tonight should be very interesting! I am going up against some serious talent, so I am not expecting to get 1st place or anything. I’m just gonna go out, have a good time, and we’ll see what happens. :)
